Just joking but seriously read it :D
The footsteps shifted at the doorway, a grunt soon followed. He mumbled something under his breath about Ava. My eyes darted the room, searching for the solution for this madness. They laid upon the distant toy box which held the emergency gun under beneath it. Violet never questioned my authority on the weapon in the children's room. Now If only could shift my weight for Marcus not to hear, I got to my side and motioned Marley to stay still. All come come out was a stricken stare at the door handle.
It slowly turned as I reached the toy box, As I lifted the toy chest filled with their unused toys, the door opened softly. Once again, my breath caught in my throat as I lifted the gun to face my older brother, Marcus.
He had a scowl on his face, eyes looking over the room then resting on the gun. A sly smile formed on his face putting his hand on the gun. I can hear my heartbeat in my ears and a slight buzzing, Marley sat beneath the crib stomach-up making her impossible to see. Marcus to more steps closer to my face he had grown since I had last saw him. His muscles bulged slightly under his gray T-shirt, Face imprinted with a forever look of hatred.
"Marcus, How'd you find me." I demanded softly.
"Little brother, do you believe I came all this way to say hello." He leaned closer to the gun, eyebrows arched high on his forehead. I raised the gun higher putting my finger on the trigger. For all my life, Marcus the hot headed- jerk brother always win in anything. This time, it was my time to shine.
"Go to the police now and admit or I'll shoot." I yelled pushing the gun deeper into his forehead, He replied in a mocking laugh. A loud noise echoed the room; The sound of the gun. The room went a bright white then faded back into the original colors one again.
I opened my eyes to see Marcus above me with a gun pointed at my face. No emotion showed on his face, he lowered the gun now over looking the scene he created. His heavy boots lead their way out of the nursery leaving me alone on the floor. Now the pain was setting in, I turned my head to the side under the crib where Marley was lying. She was silent as she was before her first words, her eyes were blank stare into mine. I reached my other hand and touched her face and smiled though the sharp pain; I heard a car door slam of Violet's car.
"Oh my Lord!" Violet cried, greeting me at my side. "I'll call the police, Who did this to you?" She asked taking hold of her cell phone and started dialing. I smiled at her and stopped her for a brief second, her face reddened as the time grew near.
"Vi, Calm down. I'm not dying, just got shot okay?" I moaned at this time the pain worsened but I put my game face on just for her. I heard the distant cry of the ambulance in the background, Violet hovered herself over me in till I told her to go gather the kids. That's when it hit me, where's Ava? I tried to push myself off the floor but Violet eased me back down as the paramedics arrived. They put the faint smell of died blood, gas mask on then hauled me into the darkness.
I awoke to the hum of the monitor and the drops from the IVs. To my side Violet wept softly, gently stroking my hand as the tears ran down her flushed face. The bright lights in the room made her look pale as a ghost. To give her a shock, I tugged her hand and smiled weakly. Her face rose and slowly met my eyes as if to fear on what to look upon.
"Hey Vi, I told you not to worry." I croaked bringing myself into a better position in the small, hospital bed.
"I'm not worried, I know you, you'll pull though..." She trailed off.
"Then why are you crying?"
"They took a test on me since I had to donate blood for you, I found out something surprising. They couldn't take blood from me for a good reason. Theo, we're having another baby." Violet smiled, wiping away the tears on her face.
"Three months?" I echoed after she told me, her reply was the rub the non-existent baby bump. A part of me was horrified at the thought of another baby, but I took to it the shake it off and kept the conversation going. The nurse arrived an few hours later and told Violet that visitor hours where over. We both waved our goodbyes and she left the room. The lights in the hospital shut off leaving me to think in the murky black light of death.
